Or are you already the first in your family to study? Then ArbeiterKind.de is the right place for you! Are any of your siblings or cousins already studying, but your parents didn't go to university? A positive attitude towards diversity is a hallmark of Bielefeld University: it aims to honour the diversity of the people who work, study, teach and research here and to promote their different skills, talents and competencies. Diversity, heterogeneity and difference are the foundation of innovative research at Bielefeld University and the basis of academic life.

Making the right decision during your studies is not always easy. Especially for degree programmes with a wide range of career options, it is important to think about your future career while you are still studying. BLICKPUNKTE aims to make it easier for participants* to gain an insight into science and offer them a framework in which they can let their gaze wander. One of the aims of BLICKPUNKTE is therefore to familiarise participants with the options and possibilities, point by point, conversation by conversation, and in this way to find a good (career) path for themselves.

It is not always easy to make decisions about your future during your studies. It can be helpful to think about your future career while you are still studying, especially for degree programmes with a wide range of appointments. BLICKPUNKTE aims to make it easier for participants* to gain an insight into science as a professional field and offer them a framework in which they can let their gaze wander. They are given the opportunity to find out about doctoral programmes and paths into science at an early stage. At the same time, it serves as a fixed meeting point with other female* students and academic staff from the faculty, where appointment-, career- and everyday life-related questions can be discussed.

Are you a first-year student studying Law and are you in your first or second semester? Or have you been studying for a while, regardless of your educational background, and would like to accompany a first-year student on their way to university? Then the ErstAka mentoring programme is just right for you!

The compatibility of studies and appointments with family is of outstanding importance to Bielefeld University: the term family encompasses all forms of long-term private coexistence and generally means a lifelong generational bond characterised by the assumption of responsibility for one another. For this reason, the University pursues a family-conscious personnel policy and family-friendly study organisation as central tasks. It has been certified as a "family-friendly university" by berufundfamilieGmbH since 2006.

We, the feminist department, work on various feminist, women's political and queer topics. This includes, among other things, analysing patriarchal structures and our own position within them. We also deal with sexual and reproductive self-determination, anti-sexism, anti-fascism, anti-racism, anti-classism, homophobia, etc. Our topics also include emancipatory international movements and struggles, Nazi remembrance and feminist positions in art and culture.

Our services are aimed at women* of all ages, in various living arrangements, with and without a migrant background. We support you in the women's advice centre by providing information, counselling, support and therapy for psychological, social and legal problems as well as coping with current and past experiences of violence and traumatic consequences.

The Frauenennotruf Bielefeld helps women and girls aged 16 and over who have been victims of sexualised violence. All women are welcome here and we always find a solution, even if there are barriers that need to be overcome. In a safe environment, we will advise, support and accompany you in everything that is necessary and that you would like.

In its gender mainstreaming approach, the university systematically involves all members of the university and all status groups so that the aspiration enshrined in the mission statement becomes part of the culture: To realise equality in structures and processes as well as in figures and to integrate gender into research and teaching. The equality and gender portal is an invitation to all members of the university to find out more about the aspirations, goals and measures and to help ensure that Bielefeld University continues its equality success story.

365 days a year, available free of charge around the clock: For the first time, the "Violence against women" helpline offers those affected the opportunity to receive anonymous, competent, safe and barrier-free counselling at any time. Qualified counsellors are available to help those seeking help confidentially and, if necessary, refer them to local support services, such as a women's counselling centre or a women's shelter nearby. Accessibility and multilingualism ensure access for women with disabilities and little knowledge of German. The helpline is also available to relatives, friends and professionals for questions and information.

The idea that men do not have - or should not have - mental health problems, which is still widespread in society, is also reflected in the psychosocial counselling landscape: there are very, very few support facilities specifically for men. And when they do exist, they are usually aimed at men who have harmed other people - mostly women and/or children. Society has not yet realised that men themselves also suffer. And not only from factual predicaments such as unemployment, lack of money, imprisonment or health problems, but also and above all from relationships, from lack of relationships, from inner conflicts, from their own traumatisation or psychological impairments, from their life story, from violence they have suffered, from themselves or from life. Or simply because everything is actually fine, but the man is still not happy.

The man-o-mann men's counselling service would like to explicitly address all these men and invite them to contact us with their concerns - whatever they may be. And very, very gladly even BEFORE what society, but also many men themselves, call a "reason" has occurred: namely that the car has long, long since hit the wall or deep into the mire or other unpleasant places ...

The movement mentoring programme is aimed at female students, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at Bielefeld University in 3 funding lines. It offers coordinated programme modules and protected framework conditions for individually tailored career development. Participants sharpen their focus on personal priorities and develop sustainable perspectives and action strategies for a self-confident future.

Bielefeld University has been providing free period products since 2019 on the initiative of student representatives. The rectorate financed the purchase and installation of a dispenser for period products in the largest women's toilet on campus in the main building. The offer was later expanded and another dispenser was installed in building X and Y. These dispensers are very well used.

Are you the first person in your family to go to university? Have you just started your degree programme and still have questions about the course or university life in general? Or have you been studying for a while and have the impression that you are facing challenges that your fellow students are not? Then you've come to the right place!

Bielefeld University offers students a wide range of services and counselling and takes into account the special needs of disabled and chronically ill students, students with children and international students.

For many, the move to university is the moment when they can fully develop their identity. Others may only realise who they are and how they want to be perceived during their studies. In all cases, Bielefeld University wants to be an environment in which this realisation can take place and has therefore set itself the goal of breaking down barriers for trans*, inter* and non-binary students at the university.

UniMaps is an app for barrier-free navigation on the campus of Bielefeld University, which is being developed by and with students in the Disabled Persons' Representation / Accessibility Centre.

University without Prejudice " is a Bielefeld University campaign that was launched in 2013 by the rectorate, the General Students' Committee of Bielefeld University (AStA [Student Union]), the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG) and other stakeholders.

The aim of the campaign is to promote the university as a place of diversity, democracy and civil courage. It aims to send a strong signal against misanthropic thinking and behaviour at Bielefeld University. Promoting civil courage and reducing discrimination is a central field of action of the university-wide diversity policy currently being developed.

In all cases of and experience with sexualised harassment, discrimination and violence, the Harassment and Discrimination Contact Point provides advice and support. In addition to personal and confidential counselling, the contact point provides information about possible courses of action within the university and can take reports directly.
